About Us
To effect meaningful change we have assembled a vibrant and diverse coalition of San Francisco leaders willing to collaborate to identify available parcels for deployment, secure public funds to implement this program, and the even greater challenge of educating and inspiring San Franciscans to welcome our unhoused neighbors into our communities.

Alex’s 2,000 Open Doors housing initiative is a bold, effective and a realistic approach that provides housing and comprehensive services for our unhoused San Franciscans. We are all yearning and deserving of a concrete and responsive approach, 2,000 Open Doors is just that project as Alex has the smarts and passion to get the big jobs done. For the sake of unhoused adults and their children and for all our communities, join us.
Solving homelessness in San Francisco will require scaling of solutions we know work and deep collaboration among all of us. Larkin Street has long advocated for many options, including shelter, transitional, rapid re-housing, and permanent housing, to help young people resolve their homelessness. I deeply support adding 2000 new temporary housing options so that more people can move inside on a path to a permanent housing solution.
2,000 Open Doors is exactly the kind of ambitious yet practical initiative that it will take to solve homelessness. Alex Tourk is bringing San Franciscans together around tangible solutions that can make an immediate impact on the lives of our unhoused neighbors, and ultimately everyone in the city. We need this level of commitment and energy brought not only to interim housing, but to permanent housing and preventing homelessness before it happens.
The issues surrounding our unhoused community members are complex and dynamic. Our response as a city must also be dynamic. This program offers a vision for compassion, dignity, and community. I’m fully invested in realizing 2000 homes that can be deployed across all neighborhoods of San Francisco. I believe in good jobs, in quality housing, and I believe in Alex Tourk to get it done.
2,000 Open Doors is in intentional collaboration to tackle the intersectional challenges of people experiencing homelessness with bold solutions and people power.
As a San Francisco leader focused on housing as the solution to ending homelessness, I also know that an additional 2,000 resources for interim housing would have an ongoing impact on unhoused community members on their path to a more permanent home. Alex Tourk’s “2,000 Open Doors” Initiative, if matched with permanent housing pathways, is a step in the right direction in moving San Francisco toward Functional Zero on homelessness.
Alex’s can-do attitude to get this off the ground and help those that are society’s most vulnerable, gives voice to those when their own is not loud. If we can open 2,000 doors, then there is no reason another 2,000 and more can’t be opened. The public can no longer look to their left or right to see who else will do this, each individual member needs to look at themselves to be the catalyst for this concept of change for the betterment of humanity
Part of the solution is modular prefabricated housing that can be built quickly, cost-effectively. Convening the entire community to offer community-based solutions for new sites, is the answer. Together we can make it happen.
We all should be saying yes to interim Supportive Housing on parking lots, vacant land, and faith-based parking sites. We can do this by building public will and by building a public movement.
